Tatarstan president meets with ATTA community

11/10/2016

For the first time in its history, the ATTA hosted the president of Tatarstan for an official meeting at the Bina on November 9, 2016.

Over 40 ATTA members helped welcome President Rustam Minnikhanov and his delegation of ministers and representatives. While it was a formal visit, the atmosphere was pleasant and friendly throughout. The charismatic President Minnikhanov thanked the community for welcoming him, and listened with interest as several members gave speeches and presentations on the history and mission of the ATTA and San Francisco Tatars.

The ATTA gifted President Minnikhanov with several mementos of San Francisco, including an official San Francisco Giants jacket, which he promptly wore to the delight of the audience. He was also officially declared an honorary ATTA member.

The president himself brought the ATTA gifts, including a framed painting of the Kazan skyline, and he personally bestowed on our own Rukiye Safa a medal in recognition of her commitment to supporting Tatar life and culture.
Rinat Zakirov, president of the World Congress of Tatars, later honored several ATTA members for their dedication to Tatar life. Rustu Agi, Dilare Capanoglu, Tahir Devletsah and Rukiye Safa were awarded medals for their great services to Tatar people. Naile Akchurin, Turan Apakay, Ibrahim Feyzullahoglu, Rukiye Mansur, Ilhan Sadri, Abduldeyyan Safa, Adile Safa, and Shaucat Salahutdin were presented with letters of commendation for their service.

Review: 2015 Tatar Bake Sale

12/7/2015

The ATTA Tatar Bake Sale fundraiser on Sunday, December 6 was an amazing success. Through food sales, mug and t-shirt purchases, and on-the-spot donations, we are happy to report that we surpassed our fundraising goals!

This could not have been possible without the help of the 40 individuals who volunteered their time and energy in various ways to help the ATTA with this event. We had dedicated teams of volunteers come to the Bina over several days to prepare over 1,200 peremech and 2,750 pilmen, enlisted help from others to manage the bustling activities during the Bake Sale itself, and saw many members come to the event with a homemade food item to donate for sale.

We are grateful to all our volunteers, as well as all members and outside friends who came and supported the cause through purchases and donations.

The event was also reported on by Azatliq.org. (link)

Ay Bılbılım Celebrates 10 Years; SF Sabantuy 2015

8/9/2015

The 2015 ATTA Sabantuy festivities began on a Friday night at the Bina, where the ATTA hosted a musical concert featuring both the ATTA singing group and visiting Tatar musical artists. The concert commemorated the past 10 years of the Ay Bılbılım singing group under the direction of musical director Dilare Capanoglu, with the group performing new renditions and old favorites. Afterwards, the full house was treated to stirring performances by visiting artists Ferit Fayzrakhmanov, Musa Malikov, and international star Venera Ganieva.

Dinner and desserts were prepared under the guidance of famous Tatar chef Rezeda Khusainova, who made her second ATTA appearance this year.

The next day at Sabantuy saw over 150 members, guests and friends gather to celebrate and enjoy everyone’s favorite Tatar holiday together as a community. The program featured amazing musical performances by our esteemed guest artists and the ATTA’s own Ay Bilbilim group, delicious BBQ food and drinks, and many games and activities for kids and adults.

Aside from the performers and Rezeda hanim, special guests included Robert Galiullin, Tatarstan trade representative based in Washington D.C. and Oleg Slepov, trade representative from the Russian Federation.

Venera Ganieva delivered Sabantuy greetings from Tatarstan president Rustam Minnikhanov, and Musa Malikov, who lives in Germany, delivered a special greeting from the organization, Tatarlar Deutschland.
